TELEPHONE HOURS (Routine)
While our office is available by telephone 24 hours a day without exception, we encourage routine calls to be made during the regular telephone hours.  This begins at 8 AM each weekday morning and ends at 5 PM.  Phone calls that are considered routine involve appointments, referrals, prescriptions and questions that pertain to financial issues; of course, questions about (or issues pertaining to) your medical condition should also be dealt with during these regular office hours so as to ensure you that your doctor will be ultimately notified of your concerns. (SEE "HOW TO USE THE AUTOMATED PHONE DIRECTORY" to reduce the frustrations of an automated system.

TELEPHONE HOURS (Emergency)
At any time of day or night we are available for emergency situations.  An emergency is defined as any issue which YOU FEEL NEEDS ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY, and is unable to wait for the next regular business day.  Our emergency phone line is our main number, 518-489-4704.  During regular hours, an operator in the office is available when you call.  Outside of the regular office hours (on weekends and nights as defined above), you will be asked to leave your name and phone number and a description of the problem about which you are calling.  The message that you leave is recorded and forwarded to the on-call physician who should receive it within minutes of your hanging up.  You should receive a return call relatively soon after you hang up, so we ask that you keep your lines open.

In the event that you are calling about an issue which you believe may require a prescription to be called in for you, we would ask that you have a pharmacy phone number ready for our return call.  However, because of possible errors that occur when prescriptions are phoned in, we will be reluctant to phone in most prescriptions that aren't of the utmost necessity (and that do not require some physician observation).

HOW TO USE THE AUTOMATED PHONE DIRECTORY

When dialing our main number (518-489-4704) your call will be answered by an automatic attendant. You will be instructed to press "1" unless you have a specific question that can be directed to the appropriate department or medical secretary.

Press 1 if you are calling with a medical problem that you feel needs attention that day (for example, a same-day sick-call appointment)
Press 1 to get the Operator who will direct your call (if you did not know how to direct your own call)

Press 2 for Surgery department
Press 3 to schedule an appt
Press 4 for prescriptions
Press 5 test results
Press 6 for referrals, billing department or medical records
Press 8 for directions to the office
Press 9 to reach a medical assistant

If you do not have a push button phone, then you will automatically be transferred to the Operator after the entire menu is offered.
